My mother worked in this building from about 1960 until the Census Office relocated to Macarthur House, further up Northbourne Avenue in Lyneham. That date may have been around 1965 but I'm guessing. All I remember about the old building is that she said the cold air came up through the floor boards (and remember women only ever wore skirts and nylon stockings in those days). No lovely warm socks and trousers like the lucky men!! She was very involved in the Canberra Count which I think was conducted on 30 June every year (freezing). Her name was Brenda Martin, ex-wife of Dr John Martin of Yarralumla.
